Ujima Global Leaders Program Research Essay
Abstract
The Ujima Global Leaders Program at Northeastern University offers a supportive environment and services to help minority students succeed in college. Founded in response to a lack of diversity on campus, the program provides scholarships, mentoring, tutoring, and cultural activities. This study examines the program's history, its influence on student retention rates, and why more funding should be directed toward such programs. The author, a program member, emphasizes the personal benefits of financial help, mentorship, and a feeling of community. The program's effectiveness in promoting academic achievement and inclusion emphasizes the need for ongoing financing for Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion efforts in higher education.
