Reflections on the Hudson: A Duality of Place
Haverstraw Bay Park: A Sanctuary of Youth and Responsibility
Abstract
This reflective essay goes into the dual role of Haverstraw Bay Park as both a personal sanctuary and a space of community responsibility during the my crtitical high school years. Through different anecdotes, I recounts the park’s transformation from a backdrop for carefree evenings of friendship and laughter into a setting for community service and solidarity. This duality is examined through experiences ranging from late-night conversations under the stars to daytime efforts cleaning up the park and participating in cancer awareness walks. The narrative goes into themes of belonging, personal growth, and the interplay between private joys and public responsibilities, ultimately portraying the park as a living symbol of coexistence and the complexities of growing up.
